Bridlington, Scarborough, Hornsea – I’m sure you’ve heard of them but if you’re a dog owner you’ll know that many of the beaches in Yorkshire are subject to restrictions over the early-late summer months meaning dogs are not permitted on many of them along the coastline.
Well – not Fraisthorpe Beach! Fraisthorpe is dog friendly ALL YEAR ROUND and as such, your pup will find plenty of dogs to play with if you make a visit here.

Located just 2 miles south of Bridlington, Fraisthorpe Beach is one of those golden sandy beaches you just can’t wait to feel between your toes. The beach stretches as far as the eye can see and although it can get busy near the car park, a short walk south along the beach will see the crowds start to dwindle meaning you’re likely to be able to enjoy part of he beach to yourself even during the peak season.
How do I get to Fraisthorpe Beach?
If driving, the beach is located at the end of a lane leading from the A165 near the village of Fraisthorpe. The beach is signposted and the car park is located at the end of this lane. The lane is a single track road however there are plenty of laybys to pass other cars safely.
Do I have to pay to park at Fraisthorpe Beach?
Parking costs £5 for an all day ticket per car. There are pay and display machines dotted around the car park but you can also pay through the Connect Cashless Parking app or website.
The car park is wonderfully located right on the cliffs above the beach with several (but some quite steep) paths down to the beach itself.

What facilities are there at Fraisthorpe Beach?
Fraisthorpe Beach might not have as many facilities as its neighbour at Bridlington however there is a toilet block open all year round, a café and a takeaway hut called The Cow Shed. I recommend the ice cream and homemade cakes from here!
Can I do watersports at Fraisthorpe Beach?
While there are no watersport companies operating directly out of Fraisthorpe Beach, this is a popular area with wind and kite surfers. You can also take your own equipment if you have any like kayaks and paddleboards and this is a popular place for swimming too. Just remember to carefully consider wind speed, tide times and currents if you’re taking part in any of these activities.
Top tips for Fraisthorpe Beach
- Check the weather and wind speed of Fraisthorpe Beach here. Any wind speed above 10mph is not recommended for inflatable equipment due to the risk of being swept away from the shore and being unable to paddle back to shore safely.
- Be aware of rip tides, which can pull you quickly away from shore, and how to spot them.
- Jellyfish have previously been known to have been washed up on the beach at Bridlington causing harm to dogs. Be mindful if your dog is off lead.
- Although the water quality for bathing has been rated as “good” recently, sewage is discharged into the sea further up the beach in Bridlington. Considering the close proximity of the two beaches, it is worth checking the latest water quality here before deciding whether to swim or not!
- Remember to wear a lifejacket if in the water.
